Victoria Harbour
Dunbar is a beautiful coastal town located midway between Edinburgh and Berwick on Scotland’s spectacular East Coast and The Harbour Chapel sits on the approach to Dunbar’s 2 historic harbours.
Our outdoor ceremonies take place only a minute’s walk from The Harbour Chapel at Victoria Harbour with the castle remnants and the vibrant colours of the fishing boats and lobster creels. An award-winning outdoor area has been created on the site of the Battery and sits between the two harbours, it can be booked for exclusive use for our outdoor wedding ceremonies and also lends itself as a fabulous backdrop for photographs. Your guests can sit in an atmospheric sandstone amphitheatre, surrounded by gardens with public art and stunning panoramic views.
Victoria Harbour was built in the shelter of the castle ruins which still stand today sitting high on the rock. Dunbar was once a major herring and whaling port and opposite The Harbour Chapel you will see the statue of the Creel Loaders which commemorates the part played by the fisher lassies in Dunbar’s herring story.
Beaches for photography
Belhaven Bay
Only a 5 minute drive from The Harbour Chapel is the truly stunning Belhaven Bay. This beautiful beach with its fine pale sand is fringed by low, sheltering sand dunes, rich salt marsh and colourful grasslands, it has spectacular views across the Forth Estuary to the famous Bass Rock.
At low tide the iconic “Bridge to Nowhere” takes you to cross the stream to the beach. However, at high tide, the water swallows the land around the bridge, making it look as though it’s stranded in the middle of a sea.
This simple bridge surrounded by water is very evocative and provides a truly romantic setting for photographs, with the colours of the sky reflected in the water, the sand dunes, and the bridge combined, it really is a sight to behold.
Whitesands
Whitesands is an attractive stretch of fine golden sand surrounded on either side by rocky areas and low-rise cliffs with the iconic Barns Ness Lighthouse just a few minutes walk away.
